Crystal Cruises is an ultra-luxury cruise line with over three decades of history. The Crystal brand and its ships were acquired in 2022 by A&K Travel Group, recommencing operations in 2023. Today the line operates three exquisitely reimagined ships - Crystal Symphony, Crystal Serenity, and Crystal Grace - and is known for offering the largest space per passenger in cruising, one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios, personal butler service for every stateroom, and the only restaurant at sea by chef Nobu Matsuhisa.
This was far more than a straightforward replacement hire. Crystal were at a pivotal moment in their growth trajectory, with two additional vessels entering service that would effectively double their fleet capacity.
The incoming National Sales Manager would need to hit the ground running, building the trade sales infrastructure, partner relationships, and revenue strategy needed to absorb and monetise that expanded inventory. The role demanded someone with deep luxury travel credentials, established relationships across the UK trade, and the leadership gravitas to operate confidently at VP level while also rolling their sleeves up to lay the commercial groundwork for the brand’s next chapter.
Our search identified a candidate currently serving as Strategic Account Manager at Celebrity Cruises (Royal Caribbean Group) – a professional with over 25 years in the travel and tourism industry spanning roles from retail management through to regional and national sales.
Crucially, this individual had already operated at a high level within the luxury cruise space, managing complex portfolios of key trade accounts, developing integrated sales and marketing plans, and consistently delivering against revenue and passenger targets. Their earlier experience as Area Sales Manager at Kuoni – overseeing 65 direct reports across 10 locations and holding full P&L responsibility – demonstrated the leadership range needed for a national remit.
Having been awarded Regional Sales Manager of the Year and built a reputation as a trusted brand ambassador, this was a candidate with both the commercial pedigree and the personal credibility to represent Crystal at the highest levels of the trade.
Our candidate was successfully placed as Crystal Cruises’ National Sales Manager, stepping into the role with an immediate mandate to build and future-proof the brand’s UK trade sales strategy ahead of the fleet expansion.
Their appointment gave Crystal the experienced, well-connected leader they needed to establish robust national account frameworks, deepen relationships with key consortia and cruise specialists, and ensure the trade was fully prepared and incentivised to sell the additional capacity coming to market. For Crystal, this was not simply filling a vacancy – it was securing the commercial architect for the next phase of their growth.
